The Doctor explains - Fertility

The process for a woman to fall pregnant requires a number of steps. Failure of any of those steps will either result in inability of a female to fall pregnant or pregnancy will not progress:

  1. Sperm needs to be placed in the female tract (usually through the process of sexual intercourse with successful ejaculation). This will need to occur in the 1-2 days that the egg has been released in the female tract and usually occurs half way through the cycle
  2. The sperm needs to be in ADEQUATE QUANTITY and be MOBILE enough to swim along the female tract to reach the egg
  3. Once the sperm has reached the egg, it needs to be STRONG to enter the egg
  4. Provided the GENETIC MATERIAL (i.e. DNA information) of BOTH the egg and the sperm are adequate, the egg will be fertilised and pregnancy will occur.

There are different reasons as to why fertility is reduced and the approach is different depending on weather you are a man or a woman.
