The Doctor explains - Female Fertility

A women (unlike men) are  born with a specific number of eggs which will last throughout their reproductive years:

  1. During fetal development, a woman has about 6 million eggs
  2. At birth, there are approximately 1 million eggs left
  3. By the time a woman reaches puberty, only about 300,000 remain which are the ones that will be used for fertilitzation

Subsequently, the number of eggs continues to decline as the woman age and menstruates each cycle. This decline in fertility is primarily due to aging of the eggs (which undergo DNA damage due to advancing age) thus reducing both the NUMBER and QUALITY of the remaining eggs.

Although a woman CANNOT take supplements to INCREASE number of eggs, supplements can help to create the right environment for a healthy egg to come into the surface of the ovary and thus get released. This is mostly done by REDUCING INFLAMMATION in the ovary, thus maximising the chance to release a healthy egg.

Such supplements are the following:

  • DHEAS (25mg once to three times daily) - Please note that this can only be done through a doctor's prescription
  • CoEnzyme Q10 200mg twice daily (go to product)
  • Vitamin D (according to Vitamin D plasma levels)
  • Folic Acid (400mcg daily)
  • NAC or N-Acetyl-Cysteine (600mg daily)
  • Vitamin C (1000mg daily)
  • RALA or Right Alpha Lipoic Acid (200mg once or twice daily)

Disclaimer: The appropriate use of supplements to aid fertility should ideally be discussed with your fertility doctor.
